Easy strip cutting and foundation piecing directly onto fusible interfacing create the funky stripes. Ample outer end and interior pockets go together quickly with the help of a little elastic.
Use pre-made purse handles or make your own from faabrics included in the materials list below. You can substitute blue star fabric for the buttons. You'll get rave reviews and lots of compliments on this fabulous handbag - guaranteed!
Materials You'll Need to Make Your own:
(100% cotton, non-directional, fabrics recommended)
- 1 fat quarter white for flag stripes
- 2/3 yd red for flag stripes, inner pockts, lining, handles
- 1/3 yd 42" wide Pellon fusible Thermaloam Plus
- 1-3/4 yd 20" wide medium weight fusible interfacing
- 1-1/4 yd 1/2" wide elastic
- One pair 13" flexible purse handles or rigid purse handles with a 6-1/2" span
- 75 - 100 1/4" to 1/2" white/off-white buttons
- Matching thread
Optional Materials:
- Two - 3/4" magnetic snaps
- 10" x 10" remnant of star fabric (if not using buttons)
- 3-1/2 x 13" piece of heavy, heat-resistant template plastic for bottom insert
- 8" x 16" fabric scrap for bottom insert
Recommended Equipment:
- Size 14 or 90/14 sewing machine needle
- Micron Fabric Marking Pen (0.005 size) or equivalent permanent marking pen
- Chalk pencil
